The program features Schubert's Death and The Maiden arrangement for chamber orchestra and two violin concertos by contemporary Russian composers.

Mikhail Bronner wrote his concerto In Search of the Holy Grail in 2004 for Levon Ambartsumian and his five-year old son Sasha, a budding violinist. The music meditates on the happiness of childhood-- the beautiful and deep-rooted Holy Grail present in our hearts. The solo parts will be performed by Levon Ambartsumian and his eight-year old daughter Anna; Daniel Kaplunas will conduct the orchestra.

Efrem Podgaits' Concerto for Two Violins and Chamber Orchestra was written in 1986. The work is in traditional three-movement form marked by strong contrasts between the energetic outer movements and slow and apathetic second movement. Extremely virtuosic Finale combines complicated melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic textures, bringing the work to climactic and unforgettable finish. Levon Ambartsumian and Shakhida Azimkhodjaeva will be the soloists, with Daniel Kaplunas conducting the orchestra.

Schubert's string quartet in D minor Death and the Maiden is one of the most beautiful chamber music works of the Romantic era. Written in 1824, the quartet derives its nickname from its second movement, which uses music from Schubert's song Death and the Maiden, composed in 1817. The work was arranged for chamber orchestra by Levon Ambartsumian, who will also conduct the performance.
