			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.music.uga.edu/newsblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Concert1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-645" title="Concert1" src="http://www.music.uga.edu/newsblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Concert1-182x300.jpg" alt="David Trasoff" width="182" height="300" /></a>Dr. David Trasoff will be on campus from April 23-27 as part of the Gordhan L.  and Virginia B, “Jinx” Patel Distinguished Visiting Professorship. This  visiting professorship in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music was created  in 2008 to promote the knowledge and experience of Indian Musical arts  by bringing in acknowledged renowned performers of Indian classical  music to perform, teach, and work with UGA students and faculty.</p>
<p>In conjunction with his visit, Dr. Trasoff will present a <a href="http://www.music.uga.edu/events/view_event.php?id=11368">free concert</a> on Thursday, April 26 in Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall, accompanied by tabla player Prithwiraj Bhattacharjee.</p>
<p>Dr. Trasoff will also present a paper entitled “Sourindro Mohun Tagore, Hindustani Music and The Colonization of the European Mind” on Tuesday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m. in room 412 of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music.</p>
<p>Dr. Trasoff has studied sarode performance and North Indian classical music under maestro Ali Akbar Khan, India&#8217;s &#8216;Living National Treasure,&#8217; since 1973. Acclaimed for his performance in both the United States and India, Dr. Trasoff has appeared in concert in arts centers, universities, conservatories and festivals in the United States, Europe, and Asia and has made numerous performing tours in India.</p>
<p>He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.F.A. in music from California Institute of the Arts. He served as Director of the Indian Music Ensemble at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has taught at the California Institute of the Arts, University of California, Riverside, California State University, San Marcos, Pomona College and the Rotterdam Conservatory CODARTS program.</p>

<p><a href="http://georgiachildrenschorus.org">Georgia Children’s Chorus</a> (GCC), a 100-voice choir in-residence at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia,  presents Somewhere Over the Rainbow!, its spring concert on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center on campus.</p>
<p>The chorus is directed by Carol Reeves and accompanied by Erica  McClellan. Concert selections include a rainbow-themed medley, featuring  the perennial classic Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and pieces sung in  Zambian, Serbian, Hebrew, and Latin, including selections from Leonard  Bernstein’s Mass.  John Rutter’s All Things Bright and Beautiful, and a  traditional gospel piece also showcase the diverse musical styles the  choir has learned this year.</p>
<p><a href="http://georgiachildrenschorus.com/events/spring-concert/">Concert tickets</a> are $5 each, available online at georgiachildrenschorus.org, or by contacting GCC at gcc@uga.edu or 706.542.8711. Also available are $5 raffle tickets to win a painting of a site of the winner’s choosing by Athens artist Jamie Calkin, known for his colorful, fishbowl view of iconic Athens buildings. The lucky winner will be drawn at the concert, but need not be present to win.</p>

<p>Since it was created by flutist Misty Theisen and saxophonist Marc Ballard, <a href="http://duofujin.com/">Duo Fujin</a> has promoted both traditional and contemporary concert music in its performances across the United States. In addition to presenting pieces from the existing repertoire for flute and saxophone, the duo has also been instrumental in commissioning new works for this unique instrumentation.</p>
<p>For their performance at UGA, Duo Fujin will perform works by school of music faculty member Adrian P. Childs and alumnus Michael Broder (BMus Composition, 2010).</p>
<p>Duo Fujin performs in a free concert presented by the Hugh Hodgson School of Music Composition/Theory Area on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Dancz Center for New Music. The concert is free and open to the public.</p>

<p>The UGA Choral Association presents its Annual Joy of Singing Festival with this year’s guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Peter Bagley.  Dr. Bagley is Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut where he served as the Director of Choral Activities and now is Special Assistant to the Dean.</p>
<p>The day will consist of clinics with guest high school choirs from Clarke Central and Jackson County High School, as well as with the UGA Hodgson Singers and the combined choirs with members of Oconee County High School Choir, UGA’s African American Choral Ensemble, and the University Chorus.  The evening concert at 8:00pm will feature a wide variety of choral music and is free and open to the public.</p>
