Guest Artists: Duo Fujin

Since it was created by flutist Misty Theisen and saxophonist Marc Ballard, Duo Fujin has promoted both traditional and contemporary concert music in its performances across the United States. In addition to presenting pieces from the existing repertoire for flute and saxophone, the duo has also been instrumental in commissioning new works for this unique instrumentation.

The Joy of Singing

The UGA Choral Association presents its Annual Joy of Singing Festival with this year’s guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Peter Bagley. Dr. Bagley is Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut where he served as the Director of Choral Activities and now is Special Assistant to the Dean.

Opera Ensemble presents: The Many Faces of Divas

In most operas, the roles created by the male figures primarily represent in the plot either the “hero,” “villain,” “lover,” “priest,” “brother or “father.” These characters are often one dimensional in contrast to all of the female roles who are given a much wider emotional range to represent. Indeed, many operas revolve almost totally around this female figure; her emotions and desires are the motivating factors for most of the action in one way or another.

Helping promote music therapy in Athens and around the state

The Aria Benefit: Friday, Feb. 24, 8 pm, Ramsey Concert Hall

Cost: $15 general admission, $5 students. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Nuci’s Space or at the door.

The Aria Fund promotes music therapy, focusing first in the Athens area and then reaching people throughout the state in need of cognitive, psychosocial, emotional, and expressive outlets through the gift of music.

Wind Ensemble on North Campus

The Wind Ensemble enlivened an already beautiful Fall afternoon the last Friday in September with its second Concert on the Lawn. The students, Dr. Lynch, guest soloists Michael Heald and Brandon Craswell , and PAC director George Foreman all did a terrific job, as a few more folks on campus discovered the musicianship and precision of the Wind Ensemble.
