Giving Opportunities

Endowed Funds

An endowment is a permanent fund. The principal (or corpus) amount of money gifted will never be depleted and is invested to earn revenue. These funds will continue to give in perpetuity. These funds have a lasting and perpetual impact on the Hugh Hodgson School of Music community.
 

Non-Endowed Funds

Non-endowed funds have no permanent principal balance and are immediately available for use. These funds have an immediate impact on the Hugh Hodgson School of Music community.

Director Priority Funds

These funds are the top priorities of the Director of Hugh Hodgson School of Music Pete Jutras. While all areas and funds serve a necessary purpose, these funds address some of our immediate needs and/or benefit the entire School of Music.

 

HUGH HODGSON SCHOOL OF MUSIC ENHANCEMENT FUND

This fund provides general support for the entire School of Music, including student support, instrument repair and maintenance, providing honoraria for guest artists, and more. Furthermore, your donationssupport operations in the school, including instrument purchases, student travel, research, performances, and funding for external concerts and events, along with showcasing the work of our students and faculty to the community and the world.

The purpose of the Fund is to promote education in the field of music for the benefit of the State of Georgia and its people and others. Without limiting the generality of the aforementioned purpose, such uses of the income of the Fund may include, but not be limited to, the promotion and encouragement of study, research, and teaching in the field of music by the making of grants for scholarships, fellowships, or otherwise; the establishment of endowed teaching chairs; the promotion of specialization in such fields by students, instructors, professors, or others by the use of said income, and to do whatever is deemed proper and appropriate to bring into being new scholarship and knowledge and wisdom concerning music and its enjoyment and appreciation by the people of Georgia and elsewhere; expenditures may include traveling and entertainment expense, and other like expenses, by the Director of the School in furtherance of his or her respective duties and the programs of the School (it being recognized that s

Robert G. Edge Music Fund - ENDOWED

The purpose of the Fund is to strengthen and enrich the School by providing expenditures for one or more music-related events to be selected by the Director of the School. The annual event( s) might be a lecture, a competition (especially in piano), a master class by an eminent musician, or something similar whose public nature would enhance the educational mission of the School while also serving as public outreach to the community. The Donor has indicated he is more interested in events rather than scholarships and salary supplements. Whenever possible, events sponsored by this Fund will be of general interest and open to the students, faculty, and friends of the University of Georgia ("University"'). The event(s) is to be a discrete one to be funded entirely (or almost entirely) by the Fund, with acknowledgment of that funding in all announcements, posters, press releases, program notes, etc.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for students in the School. Support shall include, but not be limited to, scholarships, awards, travel for auditions, conferences, workshops, performances, and other expenses in support of students. Preference will be made to support special opportunities that will impact and advance students careers in music performance, research, and other educational and entrepreneurial endeavors. Students will apply for the opportunity funds according to the process implemented by the School and recipients of funds will be selected by a committee appointed by the Director of the School.

Powell Family Professional Travel Fund - Endowed

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for the performance/ academic travel needs and related expenses of students seeking degrees within the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Support may be awarded for both undergraduate and graduate level students as desired. Preference shall be given to those engaged in approved music performance opportunities. Opportunities involving the presentation/preparation of academic programs or papers shall be given secondary consideration. Selection of recipients shall be made by an ad hoc committee designated by the Director of the School. Professional Travel Awards shall be approved by the Director of the School. Awards may support both domestic and foreign travel. Award recipients must complete and submit to the Director a completed "Activity Report" following the travel experience. Emphasis shall be placed on a limited number of significant travel awards rather than numerous minor awards.

Marketing and Public Relations Support Fund - Non-Endowed

Marketing and Public Relations are key components for the growth and sustainability of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. This fund has been developed as a supplement to the marketing and public relations budget to expand the scope of print and online advertising, use of professional photographers, and printing of programs, magazines, posters, and related materials. Additionally, the fund can be expanded to include necessary equipment (such as, but not limited to camera equipment, digital software and website development, etc.), continuing education for the Director of Public Relations (DPR), and travel and engagement expenses for the DPR to cover off-campus events and attend relevant conferences and seminars. This fund can also be used to provide wages for temporary, part-time, or full-time additions to the public relations team as needed.

Piano Maintenance and Inventory Fund - Non-Endowed

This fund is to support, maintain, and improve the piano inventory at the School of Music. This fund can include piano repair, piano replacements, or anything related to the maintenance of the current and future piano inventory. Expenses may include, but not limited to, purchasing new pianos, purchasing replacement piano parts, piano tuning, piano tools, services that impact the condition of the piano inventory at HHSOM.

 Scholarship and Student Development
Thursday Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support for both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. Selection of scholarship recipients will be made by the Scholarship Committee of the School and approved by the Director of the School. Scholarship awards will be based on any of the following: faculty recommendations, the Committee's assessments of academic promise/achievement, performance ability, or other assessments as deemed appropriate by the Committee. Scholarships may be awarded for both recruitment and retention purposes.

Financial need shall be determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid at the University of Georgia ("University"). The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for service learning trips for the University of Georgia Bands. The purpose is to provide student awards and to provide general support to the Choral Activities Program in the School of Music. Orchestra Support Fund - Non-Endowed

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for the Orchestra ensembles at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music ("School"). Support shall include, but not be limited to, musical instruments, travel, events, operating expenses, awards, supplies, equipment, business-related meals and entertainment, and any other related expenses deemed appropriate by the Director of the School and approved by the Dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences ("College").

Bennett Family Scholarship for Orchestral Performance - Endowed

The purpose of the Fund is to create a scholarship for an undergraduate(s) at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music ("School") who is committed to furthering the advancement of women in the field of music. The first preference shall be members of the orchestra who play violin, oboe, percussion, or flute, or composition students who compose primarily instrumental music. Recipients shall be selected by the faculty awards committee appointed by the Director of the School of Music. The scholarship is to be announced in the annual graduation program or given similar recognition. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate a willingness to support the cause of women in music. Examples of support include, but are not limited to:• Regularly performing works by women composers. Working to establish a yearly concert or series of concerts featuring women composers. Carrying out research on women performers, composers, conductors, or educators, of any type of music, which leads to a written or oral scholarly presentation.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for students in the UGA Symphony Orchestra. Support shall include, but not be limited to, awards for student participants, student travel/touring, workshops and master classes, and other activities or expenditures that directly benefit students in the orchestra program in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music ("School"). Recipients of awards from the Strobel fund shall be active members of the Orchestra, recommended by the Director of Orchestras and faculty scholarship committee to the Director of the School. All expenditures from this Fund shall adhere to the spending limit policy as set forth by the Foundation as the same may be modified from time to time by the Foundation.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support for an undergraduate student(s) in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. Candidates shall be piano students interested in a career of teaching and/or performance. The recipient(s) shall demonstrate traits of dedication and enthusiasm as well as talent in impressive performances. Recipients will be selected by a committee appointed by the Director of the School; at least one member of the keyboard faculty shall be involved in the selection process.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support to undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of composition and oboe performance. The award shall alternate between composition and oboe performance students on an annual basis.
