A batch of recitals today in the Hodgson School of music, featuring a few of the school's many great students on the saxophone, piano, cello and oboe. Come and enjoy these remarkable performances and support student achievement. Admission is free. ****** And if you are near Atlanta on Sunday the 28th, don't forget the Collegium Musicum Palm Sunday performance at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Ga. Music begins at 4 p.m.

Today, members of UGA Concert Choir will perform a short sneak preview of their Monteverdi Vespers concert tomorrow night during the class change in the Miller learning Center. 1 p.m. Pictures later. ***Update - here's the video.

Opera, Encore!

The  UGA Opera Ensemble's performance of Lehar's The Merry Widow continues for a second evening tonight, 8 p.m. Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall.

Tickets ( $15/$7 for UGA students with ID) are available through the Performing Arts Center box office, 706-542-4400.

Opera Tonight

Tonight at 8 p.m. the UGA Opera Ensemble presents Lehar's "The Merry Widow" in a fully staged performance at Hodgson Concert Hall.

Congratulations to all the students and professor Burchinal for the hard work they have put into making this an unforgettable performance. The large cast will share the stage with a small chamber orchestra, conducted by Gary DiPasquasio. The various dance sequences were choreographed by Denise Posnak, a visiting lecturer in the department of dance.

Music Research Symposium 2010

Om March 18 in Edge Recital Hall beginning at 9:30 a.m. the Musicology/Ethnomusicology Area of the Hodgson School of Music and the Musicology Ethnomusicology Student Association (MESA) present the 2010 Music Research Symposium.

The day of speakers, panel discussions and presentations shows the diversity of expertise in school of music and will be a point of interest for music scholars as well as casual observers. The symposium is free and open to the public.

UGA Mallet Ensemble

The music continues today with recitals and an early evening concert.

At 5 p.m. in Edge Recital Hall, Ryan Booth and Matthew Everhart will present their saxophone recitals.

At 6 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall, the UGA Mallet Ensemble, under the direction of Scott Pollard, will present a concert that was originally scheduled for two weeks ago but was 'snowed out'.

The performances are free and open to the public, so come out and enjoy while you support our students and colleagues.

Daniel Mammola

The Hodgson Community mourns the passing of one of its very young, wonderful staff members. From the Director, Dale Monson:

Daniel Mammola, an IT technician in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, was in a scooter accident early Monday morning. Tragically, he passed away yesterday afternoon from his injuries. St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Cumming, GA (see address below) will be holding Mass for him tomorrow at 11 a.m. All are invited to attend.
