The University of Georgia and the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will host a memorial service celebrating the life of Dr. Kenneth Fischer on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall at the Performing Arts Center.

All afternoon today, in Edge Recital Hall, the finals of the saxophone quartet competition portion of the NASA conference take center stage. Edge is located on the 3rd floor of the Hodgson School of Music, the most updated schedule is available at the door. The performances are that most delightful of combinations - exhibiting very high levels of virtuosity and being completely free of charge.

The UGA Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mark Cedel, plays Mahler's Symphony No. 5 tonight at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall at the Performing Arts Center.

Hailed by conductors, musicians and audiences alike as a deeply transformative experience, Mahler’s Fifth is regarded as a rite of passage marking the experience and breadth of an orchestra. The 70-minute performance will feature principal trumpet Phillip Parsons playing the solo that opens the symphony.

If you're walking the corridors of the Hodgson School over the next three days and you love the saxophone, you're in heaven. They're everywhere. Performing, rehearsing, giving lessons, taking lessons, judging, being judged, warming up, sitting out front of the building in the sun... all the fun of being serious performer is operational and in action around the music school these days, all part of the biennial NASA Conference going on here.

Two great concerts in the HHSOM today, snow notwithstanding: The UGA Mallet Ensemble, under the direction of new percussion faculty member Scott Pollard, performs at 6 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall over at the Performing Arts Center; and the Concert Band and the University Band share the bill at Hodgson Concert Hall beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is free to both performances and the public is invited to attend.

A very full week of music at the HHSOM kicks ofF with tonight's Wind Symphony Concert.  The Wind Symphony is conducted by Gregg Gausline and tonight's concert will feature oboe faculty member Dwight Manning and guest conductor Mark Spede, Director of Bands at Clemson University.

Tonight's program;

The UGA Opera Ensemble's performance of Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief takes place tonight at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall, with an encore performance on Friday, February 19, also at 8 p.m..

the Hugh Hodgson School of Music's Roger & Phyllis Dancz Center for New Music, is a black-box multimedia theater with theatrical lighting, flexible audience seating, 4.4 audio spatialization, and state-of-the-art communication capability with the three adjacent electronic music composition studios. It serves as the rehearsal space for the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble and is also used for solo and chamber ensemble performances involving new music and multimedia.
