Maggie Snyder, Associate Professor of Viola at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia, with funding support from the Louisville-based Nora Redman Fund, is pleased to announce a call-for-scores for solo viola works by women composers.

Composition Concert kicks off 2019 Faculty Artist Series

As a new year rings in, it is only fitting to have a concert highlighting new musical works. The Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s composition faculty, along with many guest artists, will continue the Faculty Artist Series on Tuesday, January 15. The start time is set for 7:30 pm in Ramsey Concert Hall.

 

Thursday Scholarship Series Holiday Concert, a Community Tradition

Get into the holiday spirit with an evening of music thatcelebrates the Holiday Season with a program of sacred and secular music. The University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s annual Holiday Concert will take place on Thursday, November 29th and Friday, November 30th at 7:30 each night on the Hodgson Hall stage. Audiences will be able to enjoy the talents of hundreds of singers and instrumentalists from the choral and large ensembles of the School of Music.

 

Faculty Artist Series presents Double Bassist Milton Masciadri

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia is excited to present world-renowned double bassist Milton Masciadri in the next installment of the school's Faculty Artist Series. The performance will be held in Ramsey Hall in the Performing Arts Center on Monday, November 26th at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Masciadri is Professor of Double Bass at UGA’s Hodgson School of Music and has a long, extensive career as a national and international performing artist. 

 

Hodgson Singers present The Passing of the Year in Concert

The University of Georgia’s flagship choral ensemble, the Hodgson Singers, will present a concert reflecting on life’s “seasons and sentiments” on Tuesday, November 6th. The performance will take place in Hodgson Hall at 7:30 during UGA’s 7thAnnual Spotlight on the Arts Festival, which is presented by the UGA Arts Council and features dozens of events and exhibitions in the visual, literary, and performing arts. 

 

Kaleidoscope: Spotlight on the Arts Opening Celebration

To celebrate the opening of the Spotlight on the Arts festival, UGA’s arts programs present an hour-long kaleidoscope of student performances and presentations on Thursday, November 1st at 7:30 in Hodgson Hall. This brilliant, non-stop collage of the arts provides a window into the vast scope of the creative work on campus, from dance to music, theater, creative writing and art. The event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the UGA Arts Council.

Spotlight on the Arts Festival 2018

Presented by the UGA Arts Council, the seventh annual Spotlight on the Arts festival features dozens of events and exhibitions in the visual, literary and performing arts. The 11-day festival, scheduled for Nov. 1-11, includes concerts, museum tours, discussions with writers, dance and dramatic performances. The festival kicks off Nov. 1 with student performances all day on Tate Plaza followed by “Kaleidoscope: Spotlight on the Arts Opening Celebration,” which features a non-stop collage of student performances in dance, music, theater and creative writing.

University of Georgia student places 2nd in International Guitar Competition

University of Georgia DMA student Gonzalo Arias Contreras won the silver medal at the Florida Guitar Festival and Competition held in Tallahassee, Florida annually in October. Gonzalo is a student of Daniel Bolshoy, who was also in attendance at the festival performing a solo recital and teaching a masterclass.
