UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music Admissions

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM) offers a variety of degree programs, from baccalaureate to doctoral levels, in music performance, composition, conducting, music education, musicology and ethnomusicology, music therapy, and more.

There is a lot to experience both in and out of our classrooms, with well over 300 performance opportunities each year in the stunning Hodgson Concert Hall, intimate Ramsey and Edge recital spaces, and our Dancz Center for New Music.

We are excited to share our inclusive, supportive, and innovative community of musicians with you and to help you discover how our world-renowned faculty, excellent facilities and resources, and invigorating curriculums can lead you to the next steps in your musical journey.

 

 Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate

You must apply to the School of Music before you can audition. For details, please review the Undergraduate Music Admissions Overview. We recommend submitting your School of Music application at least a month prior to your preferred audition date. 

Spring 2024 Applicants: Please contact Music Admissions before you apply to start in a spring semester. We must verify studio space before an audition can be scheduled. The deadline to apply for Spring 2024 is November 1 for voice, and December 1 for all other areas. Spring 2024 auditions must occur before December 15

Fall 2024 Applicants: The recommended deadline to apply for Fall 2024 is January 1, but we are still accepting applications at this time. Please email Music Admissions you have questions about this deadline. We will be releasing audition results for Fall 2024 by mid-March.

Undergraduate Audition Dates (for scholarship consideration):

  • Friday, January 19, 2024 (no oboe, piano, or strings)
  • Saturday, January 27, 2024 (all areas)
  • Saturday, February 3, 2024 (no oboe or trumpet)

*Music Minor in Jazz applicants should select "Distance Audition" to submit their audition with recorded materials.

**Oboe applicants who cannot audition on Saturday, January 27 should contact Dr. Reid Messich to discuss auditioning on Saturday, February 10.

Applications for Fall 2024 are currently being accepted.

Please be sure that you also carefully review the Graduate Admissions Overview.

Applicants in Performance should provide the audition committee with a list of major applied teachers, samples of programs performed, and a summary of literature studied. One of the letters of recommendation should be from the most recent applied instructor.

For pre-screening information or other special requirements specific to your desired degree, please select your performance area from the list below.  Applicants who are not required to submit for pre-screening must contact the appropriate area chair to secure a date for a live audition.
